SPRING and SUMMER helpful Storage Hints

With the weather starting to get warmer (YEA!!), here are a few hints you can follow as a precaution.

PADLOCKS

Make sure to spray them with a lubricant to prevent rusting and freezing up. After being exposed to the winter elements some maintenance is a good precaution.  Another good idea is to place a plastic sandwich bag and a gum band over lock to prevent moisture getting in.

INSIDE YOUR UNIT

Make sure all stacked boxes are sturdy and straight so they won’t topple over and you have a mess to deal with. It is a good idea to leave an air space between the stacked boxes and the storage unit walls to promote good air circulation.  Now is a good time to spring clean.  Bring a broom with you on your next trip to your storage space and clean the cob webs.

UNWANTED GUESTS

We all know that there are rodents everywhere. Please take precautionary measures to protect your stored items by placing bait traps or moth balls in your unit. Make sure you NEVER store food items, you are just asking for trouble if you do.

CAR STORAGE

It is a smart idea to back your car into the unit. If there comes a day when your battery needs jumped, your engine compartment is up in front of the unit. Also please do not let your car idle inside the unit. There are detectors in the Storage Bldgs as part of the Fire Alarm system and you do not want to trip a false Fire Alarm. But most important are dangerous exhaust fumes lingering inside the unit if you do.

FURNITURE

Take some time to get some furniture polish on your wooden furniture.  You may want to take the blankets and sheets that you covered your furniture with home and launder them.  With air circulation within the Storage unit, dust may have accumulated on your items.

SUMMER WEATHER

Please be careful storing anything that the warmer weather may cause harm.  For example, candles, DVD's CD's, video tapes.  Make sure any books, photographs or any type of paperwork you are storing is properly packed away.  A good suggestion is to line your boxes with plastic garbage bags and twist tie them shut.  This will help against summer humidity getting to them.
